Get a feel of the Smartxt program
DECIDE TO PARTICIPATE (General Faculty)
Contact Rick Plescia, Smartxt College Coordinator, at: rplescia@earthlink.net.
As your personal guide, Rick will provide the following support:
- Connect you to the Smartxt Student Mentor Program and Universal Learning Lab on your campus
- Connect you to our program director to set-up a Smartxt orientation on your campus
- Hand holding through the process of digitizing your chapters for Kurzweil support
- Organize online training sessions with Director and student trainees on embedding strategies into your e-text
- Assist instructors with applying for a stipend
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A SMARTXT STUDENT MENTOR ON YOUR CAMPUS TO INTEGRATE MULTI-SENSORY SUPPORT INTO YOUR CURRICULUM
IF NEEDED, HAVE YOUR TEXT PREPARED FOR KURZWEIL 3000 (limited to 1-2 demonstration chapters)
E-mail Rose Desmond, Smartxt Technology Coordinator, at rdesmond@dvc.edu
Provide her the following information:
- Your name, College, course title and DSPS Alternate Media Specialist and or DSPS Coordinator
- Textbook title, edition #, and ISBN#
- 1-2 demonstration chapters you'd like to use for the program
Rose Desmond will prepare your demonstration chapters for our box.net library
- If needed, Rose will ask you to send your textbook to her for digitizing
When done, Rose will send you a confirmation e-mail
- She will also prepare your digitized textbook for DSPS students who require access to the entire digital textbook in your class
INTEGRATE STRATEGIES INTO YOUR DEMONSTRATION E-TEXT
Now the fun begins...
- Rick will arrange online Smartxt coaching sessions to help you integrate strategies into your chapters
- The online coaching will be implemented through CCCconfer.org and may include student trainees
- If possible, provide extra credit or assignment driven strategies and include Smartxt support in your syllabus
- Completed chapters will be reloaded onto our box.net library
